More on San Juan
ShareIntroduction
When San Juan is "On", you will notice the banner has an "Expand" button. When you click on it, the first boss is ready to be attacked.
I clicked on the "What's this ?" question mark and instructions appeared. These are the most detailed set of instructions I've seen in the game. I was expecting it to say something like "Use your stamina to attack the boss and go to The Marketplace when you run out".
Asking For Help
Before you start the fight, you have the option to ask your mafia to help you. They will fight the boss the same way you do but their attacks will count towards your boss fight. The more people that help you, the quicker your Boss will be defeated.
I was happy to have this option and saved it for the harder boss fights. When I utilized the "Ask for Help" button, I got Zynga'ed. In addition to not being able to post my help request, the timer was reset to 2 hours. I did learn that you can ask for help once every 2 hours per boss.
My timer was around 40 minutes for Don Ramirez when I beat him. I didn't have to wait to ask for help when I finally go to Big Lou. Starting a new boss fight starts a new timer.
Consumables
The consumables do different things for the San Juan Bosses than they do for New York and Las Vegas Bosses. In the image below, I highlighted the differences. In San Juan, Health kits heal you to 100% instead of 20-30%, Stun Guns last for 2 attacks instead of 1, Shiv's deal 30% damage instead of an undetermined amount of "light damage" and the Grenades don't seem to have changed. In the image below, I highlighted the differences in the descriptions from the game.
Helping Your Mafia
It's worth it to help your mafia members. The Experience/Stamina ratios are good and if you can't get the loot items from beating the Bosses on your own, you can get them for helping. To start helping your mafia members, look through your news feeds and click on the phrase "Help defeat XXXXX" located at the bottom right corner of the post.
It can get frustrating when you try to help. I always forget to heal myself prior to and if I remember, it's something else!
I had my energy account help me with Big Lou on the Gold Level and it was rewarded a Red Piranha (110/82) for doing so. You can see below that my energy account didn't do any of the boss fights. When I defeated Big Lou with my main account, the Red Piranha was also added to the inventory of my energy account. The only loot item you can't get by helping is the The Outlander. You have to be one of the top 5 helpers and you won't get the loot item if you already have it.
The experience/stamina ratios are pretty good for helping your friends fight the bosses. Here are a few random shots taken while I was helping my mafia members. No matter what Level I was helping with I always got 8 experience points. The exp/stamina ratio for helping with Bronze Level Bosses is 8:1, Silver Level is 4:1 and Gold is 2:1. In addition to experience points, you also get Las Vegas currency and on occasion a random number of Victory Coins.
If you are one of the top 5 helpers for your mafia member and he/she beats the boss you will gain additional experience and cash if you already have the loot item in your inventory. Here is what I got for helping others once I finished the event.
Bonuses
When you win any of the boss fights, you get the option to "Celebrate and let friends get a bonus". Click on the "Share" button and publish the post. When friends click on "Get Bonus", they will get 20 experience points and $V1,000. You can get 10 bonuses a day.

Update on San Juan Event
ShareGreetings Players,
We have identified a performance issue that is causing the game to run at a less than optimum experience. We have teams currently investigating the cause.
We have turned off the San Juan fight for all users at this time to assist in improving the unrelated performance issue.
San Juan will be returning in the future when we have resolved the current issue that is causing the increased server load.
We apologize to those that were mid way through the fights and to those who have not yet had a chance to take a shot at the bosses of San Juan.
Thank you for your support.

San Juan Reward Items
ShareAccording to some posts, unfortunately this special event is not simultanously launched on all servers :(
Remember the note provided in this Boss Fight menu:
"There is a time limit on each boss - if you do not take them down within that period you'll have to start over. The boss will not regenerate health if you run away or your health goes down to '0'."
Similar to previous "Beat the Feds" here's the calculation I made to provide several estimations:
1. How many stamina required to finish the Boss?
Basically, huge stamina pool will do much help to you ... but with the downgrade in stamina required in San Juan, I said that fewer stamina pool will also have some possibilities to defeat the boss. Yes, have many friends to help will do the faster completion.
Still, I compare this method of game flow with Castle Age's Monster Fights.
I take an example for Senor Carazco bronze mastery (time limit: 12 hrs)#)
Stamina (S) : 1 (required to attack him)
Boss Health (BH) : 10,000
Damage inflicted by Boss per attack (DB) : 7 *)
Damage done to Boss per attack (DC) : 750 *)
Attack Repetition (R) : BH / DC = 10,000 / 750 = 13.3 ~ 14 (roundup value)
Total stamina required to finish Carazco (I make roundup) = R x S = 14 x 1 = 14
Main point: higher DC (~ your attack skill) will reduce the total stamina required
#) I did this without consumables ... due to low damage inflicted by the boss, I don't need to die :p
*) value will differ according to your current health, att, def stats. I take the highest value to estimate the highest "cost"
2. How much time required to finish the Boss?Love to estimate how much time to get the reward to avoid disturbance with my other schedule ... :p
Time estimation will include these variables:
Health (H) : 225 (I take conservative way in health allocation)
Damage inflicted by Boss per attack (DB) : 7
Total attacks per round (AR) : H / DB = 225 / 7 = 32.14 ~ 32 (rounddown value)Note: this is estimation for pure attack to Boss, neglecting the damage inflicted by other players attacks (disturbance)
Damage to Boss per round (DR) : AR x DC = 32 x 750 = 24,000
Boss Health (BH) : 10,000So I killed the boss before my health is under 20 (or the worst is dead)
Time required TR : AR x (5 secs + healing interval) = 32 x (5 secs + 0) = 160 secs5 seconds is too much, actually it took 1-3 secs to click attack and get the updated boss screenin other case if you need to heal (I experienced it with General Vargas silver mastery)
Then the minimum value will be AR x (5 + 40) = 11 x 45 = 495 secs
B O S S S T A T S & R E W A R D S
Just have small stamina when I notice San Juan was started, here the information regarding time, Boss Health, and stamina required:
Senor Carazco
Bronze Mastery: 12 hrs , 10,000 HT , 1 sta [reward: Throwing Knives (weapon) 30a 43d]
Silver Mastery: 6 hrs, 30,000 HT , 2 sta [reward: Throwing Knives (weapon) 40a 68d]
General Vargas
Bronze Mastery: 12 hrs , 12,000 HT , 1 sta [reward: MG Gloss 350 (vehicle) 26a 47d]
Silver Mastery: 6 hrs, 36,000 HT , 2 sta [reward: MG Gloss 350 (vehicle) 42a 76d]
Don Ramirez
Bronze Mastery: 8 hrs , 14,000 HT , 1 sta [reward: Night Vision Viewer (armor) 50a 38d]
Silver Mastery: 6 hrs, 42,000 HT , 2 sta
Big Lou
Bronze Mastery: 8 hrs , 16,000 HT , 1 sta [reward: Red Piranha (animal) 56a 48d + Outlander (vehicle) 62a 40d]
Boss Health Estimation:
Considering the HT in Senor Carazco, Vargas, and Ramirez, therefore I estimate that higher mastery will triple the boss health.
Still much better than the health stats provided in Beat the Feds
---------

An Even Better User Experience
Share First and foremost, players expect and deserve a reliable game performance. We are always open to your feedback, and the top priority for us is to fix the bugs in our game. This is why we’ve dedicated this week to have our entire team work on these issues.
On Thursday, we cleaned up a lot of bugs to improve the quality of the game. Some of these issues include cracking down on cheaters who exploited a loophole to level up infinitely in Las Vegas. We have zero tolerance for users who abuse the system to give themselves an unfair advantage. We also fixed an issue that didn’t allow some users to send or accept free gifts. Now you can send building materials to friends to upgrade casino properties and chop shops and help them finish their Challenge Mission in Mumbai.
Developers are also fixing issues with It’s On in San Juan, a new limited-time boss fight. We released It’s On In San Juan on Thursday evening. The overwhelming popularity of the event forced us to make adjustments to improve the game performance. We’ve made this our priority to ensure that the feature is reliable and ready for a full release. We will be extending the boss fight event to make sure everyone gets a chance to take down the San Juan bosses.
We have a lot of work to do and a ways to go to improve the game for our users. And we’ll continue to work towards that goal. Have a great weekend playing Mafia Wars.

It's On In San Juan - Fail!

Get Ready to Beat the Bosses in San Juan
ShareEach time you take out a boss – there’s Señor Carazco, General Vargas, Don Ramirez and Big Lou – you are rewarded with Vegas chips, experience points, victory coins and powerful loot. The more bosses you beat, the more powerful your items and bigger your bonuses become.
San Juan bosses give up some sweet loot when you beat them. These include: Throwing knives (highest value tops at 49 attack/87 defense), an MG Gloss 350 vehicle (57 attack/95 defense), a Night Vision Viewer armor (106 attack, 71 defense) and a Red Piranha (110 attack, 82 defense).
Your boss fights in San Juan won’t be easy. First, you have to finish off bosses in a specific amount of time. Once time runs out, a boss recovers to full strength, which means you’ll have to start over if you don’t win the fight. Bosses also get tougher after every time, so it’s critical that you get your mafia to help you. Friends who help beat a boss share rewards with you. Don’t forget to help your mafia too. Top helpers also collect the bosses’ loot for helping their mafia win.
There are three mastery levels – bronze, silver and gold. You must defeat all four bosses to receive the mastery item, an Outlander vehicle. The Outlander increases in value each time you master a new level and tops out at attack 112/defense 58.
Help your mafia fight the good fight to collect items, and make sure they are there to go to battle with you in San Juan.

It's On In San Juan
ShareWould be more realistic if San Juan was in Cuba but it's the Capital City of Puerto Rico. Maybe the Cuban guy wants to start his life over in San Juan. I bet he wishes Zynga would just leave him alone!
